“Still expressed with distortion of shapes, thick brush strokes and dark colors, “Xác Phàm” is, yet, totally different from other exhibitions by Doan Hoang Lam. The darkness does not only exist in each individual but also in a group of people – a community with heavy emotions, painful torment and scream in the silent darkness.” (Quach Dang Tuan Nghia).

The predominant medium is lacquer, but oil and acrylic are also used. Opening: Dec 4, 6 pm

Exhibition: Dec 4–  Jan 3, 2015

Craig Thomas Gallery, 27i Tran Nhat Duat, Tan Dinh ward, Q.1.

A solo exhibition of oil paintings by Ho Chi Minh City-based artist Phuong Quoc Tri.

With his latest collection, Tri returns to a more expressionist style of work, reminiscent of the paintings by which we first came to know him at the beginning of his career in 2004. Phuong Quoc Tri 2014 also reflects a more mature artist who has grown significantly, both personally and professionally, in the intervening years. The paintings of Phuong Quoc Tri 2014 focus movingly on the issues of birth, childhood and parenthood. Issues which animate the artist’s life at the moment.

Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday 11 am to 6pm; Sundays 1 to 5 pm; and by appointment.
