Hanoi-Russian corruption play to be staged

Jan 11 and 12

Hanoi Opera House, 1 Trang Tien Street

Two-hour play directed by Chi Trung from the Youth Theatre.

The Government Inspector was written by Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, who is considered to be the father of modern Russian realism. The entire play is based on mistaken identity and on the panic that arises – for good reason – among officials. The actual theme is supposed to have been suggested by Russian writer Alexander Pushkin and, in its time, it was considered a daring piece of work.

The play is set in the early 1800s in a small Russian town where corruption was rampant among officials.

Hanoi-Exhibition “True Blue” by Le Quy Tong

Until Jan 11, 8 am – 10 pm

Manzi Art Space, 14 Phan Huy Ich Street

True Blue” sees Le Quy Tong experiment with a hybrid of painting, decorated pattern and found imagery. Each of the works takes its starting point from photographic documentations of significant political meetings that influenced the course of history. The images – sourced from historical archives and mass media – have been taken out of their original contexts and appropriated, dissected and reassembled into something new and uncanny, making it difficult to decipher between the make-believe, the manipulated and the genuine.

Hanoi-Photo Exhibition “Imagine France”

Jan 8 – 31

L’Espace, 24 Trang Tien Street

A photo exhibition “Imagine France” by Maia Flore, in partnership with Atout France and L’Institut français.

In this series of 25 photographs, Maia Flore has created a character who appropriates in each place, to make it surprising and poetic. Sometimes be actor, sometimes be spectator, this recurring character animates and renews the 25 cultural sites (castles, museums, monuments…) that the artist visited during a tour of France for 66 days between July and September 2013.
