Dien Bien has become a hot tourist spot since early this year. The province has hosted the National Tourism Year 2024, various cultural festivals and events, and the 70th Dien Bien Phu Victory anniversary (May 7, 1954).

Although the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and low-cost carrier Vietjet Air had increased the frequency of their Hanoi and HCM City-Dien Bien routes to serve rising travel demand, they were insufficient.

A survey showed that as of May 5, all the flights from HCM City and Hanoi to Dien Bien scheduled for May 5-7 had sold out.

The number of passengers from May 5 to Dien Bien Airport has soared to approximately 1,000 daily in recent days as the grand celebrations near, compared to just over 200 on normal days. The airport will receive 18 flights daily on May 6 and 7, compared to just 6-8 flights previously.

Dien Bien Province’s stadium will host a grand military parade on the morning of May 7 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

The Ministry of Defence said over 12,000 people will participate in the military parade, which will feature 18 artillery pieces and 12 helicopters.

The final rehearsal for the national-level celebration was held on May 5.

Dien Bien expects to welcome 1.30 million visitors this year.

On May 7, 1954, the Vietnamese army raised the national flag on top of French General De Castries' command bunker.

President Ho Chi Minh said the Dien Bien Phu Victory was a golden milestone in history that directly led to the signing of the Geneva Accords to end the war and restore peace in Indochina. It also created the foundation and conditions for the Vietnamese people to secure victory in the resistance war against the US, liberate the south, and reunify the country in 1975.
