The central city of Danang’s tourism sector has lured a small number of visitors after being reopened for one month.

Luong Thi Mai who has been selling souvenirs in Ngu Hanh Son tourist site for many years said that never before had she witnessed such a deserted scene. Over the past month, she had seen just a few visitors a day, with most of them being local residents and those from the neighbouring province of Quang Nam. Her family’s income depends mostly on the souvenir stall.

Mai said that only her stall had reopened while two other stalls in Ngu Hanh Son tourist site were still closed.

Other tourist spots in Danang, including Cham and Danang Museum and Linh Ung Pagoda, are in the same situation.

Cao Tri Dung, chairman of the Danang Tourism Association, said many people were still worried about Covid-19, which had discouraged them from going on holiday.

The association has encouraged local tourism firms to register to reopen in the coming time. To date, around 90 percent of tourism companies in Danang have still been shut as the pandemic has remained complicated, Dung added.

According to Dung, it would take until at least in 2024 for the Vietnamese tourism sector to recover to the levels seen in 2019.
