Training centres for university entrance exams are offering attractive programmes to lure students who have just finish their high school graduation exam.

The programmes include free accommodation, tuition fee discounts, advice on selecting a suitable university and course, as well as ways to get high marks.

Hanoi National University of Education training centre offers big discounts

The centres on Nguyen Trai, Xuan Thuy, Ta Quang Buu, Ton That Tung and Kim Lien, hang eye-catching advertisement boards offering 30% discounts off tuition fees or fee exemptions for students who come from localities far from Hanoi.

Huong, manager of a centre on Xuan Thuy Street, said her centre had never previously offered such attractive inducements. The centre’s promotion includes free accommodation for students from outside Hanoi and a tuition fee discount of 30% for those who choose to study three subjects.

Many centres allow students to attend a class for a two-day obligation-free trial. They are also equipped with the modern facilities, including air-conditioners and projectors and highly qualified teachers.

The centres also have groups which specialise in giving students advice on doing exam papers and selection of university and major. The group members are not only teachers but also people who have passed university entrance exams after attending courses at the centres.

Do Minh Phuong from the central province of Nghe An said she had applied for two universities and thanks to the advice from teachers at a centre on Kim Lien Street, she was convinced by her choice.

The centres also hold free mock exams. Each student will have at least four mock exams.

The centres which in the past would have been crowded with students have been losing ground to online courses. As internet access becomes more widespread, especially for those living in urban areas, more students have chosen online courses as an effective way to study.
