Pham Thi Linh lost her mother a year ago after a sudden fever. Her father only has small rice fields and an extra job as bricklayer to raise four children.

Then in last November, Linh was diagnosed with tuberculosis of the hip and needed at least VND120m for bone marrow aspiration and other operations. Meanwhile, one of her leg is being paralysed.

The money that her father borrowed only lasted them a month in hospital. Linh had to leave school due to the illness. She said she had promised her mother to become a doctor but that dream was fading.

After her story was published, many people have called and given them encouragement. Some readers visited the family and gave them books, clothes as well as cash.

Dang Thi Mai Huong, a reader from Hai Phong City, made huge donation after visiting the family on September 7. She contacted the National Pulmonary Tuberculosis Hospital in Hanoi to arrange the treatment for Linh and also supported the travelling fees for the family so that Linh could be admitted on September 11.

Dang Thi Mai Huong said she would pay for Linh's treatment

Huong said she would pay for all the hospital costs.

"A new joint costs VND100m then we have to see how bad the internal injuries are. The estimated cost is VND150m. We don't know if there will be any additional costs but I'll pay for it," she said.
