The charity gala event to be held on April 11 in Hanoi, will look back at the newspaper's charitable activities over the past 20 years, honour the individuals and organisations who contributed to the programme and reveal more about its coming work.

The event will also honour reporters who have shared the stories of hardship and support of those in need.

Dantri's charity programme was launched in December 2004 by the newspaper's former editor-in-chief Pham Huy Hoan. The programme has proved popular with local authorities and the public.

More than 5,100 disadvantaged people have benefited from financial support after the newspaper shared their stories. Between VND50-60 billion have been donated annually.

126 construction works including 48 classrooms, 28 bridges, and 50 houses in poor and remote areas have been built over the past two decades.

The newspaper also organised 10 events to support patients and doctors during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition to its usual charity activities, the newspaper will help school students practice basketball and build new houses for disadvantaged people.

The newspaper plans to build 100 houses for poor people nationwide between 2024-2025.
