VND50 billion for city’s new street dividers

To ease the current severe traffic congestion and number of accidents on major streets, HCM City’s Department of Transport has spent over VND50 billion carrying out a 40-kilometre median barrier installation project.

According to the department, it is necessary to install this kind of barrier as the number of traffic accidents has fallen by 50% year-on-year thanks to its trial installation stretching 30 kilometres on the National Highway 1A.

As scheduled, the project has been deployed at a series of crowded routes citywide like Truong Chinh, Cong Hoa, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh and Nguyen Tat Thanh streets, all of which are set for completion before Reunification Day on April 30.

However, the presence of the new separating strip has hindered people from crossing the streets, forcing them to climb over it as reported by many local residents and traffic policemen.

And the number of motorcycles moving towards the opposite direction of those streets newly-installed with the new barrier has been on the rise as observed by the Daily.
