HCM City police have summoned 40 people who were allegedly involved in a large-scale ring of male prostitution for further investigation.

Some couples caught in the act

A leader of the Criminal Police Department said that the young men involved had clients that were mainly middle-aged women and homosexual males.

The investigation is still expanding, as they look into dozens more who may have been involved.

The case follows on the heels of another bust in the metropolis on the night of May 19, following the raid of two hotels in District 5.

At a restaurant on Hong Bang Road in Ward 1, two couples were caught in the act.

Five other couples were caught in the act at a restaurant along Nguyen Chi Thanh Road in Ward 12.

Male sex workers said they were paid anywhere between VND200,000 and VND300,000 (USD9.53-USD14.3) for each appointment.

As this is the first large case of male prostitution detected in the city and a legal framework for dealing with such cases is lacking, the investigative agency plans to investigate further before reporting to the director of the municipal police.
