Speaking at the event, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe highlighted his country’s achievements in women development over the last two decades, citing the 30-percent increase in number of women holding managerial positions in the country as an example.

He underlined the important role play by women in the society, calling for a stronger involvement of women in various fields, as well as more international efforts in the field.

Participating delegates presented reports and gave their opinions related to girl education and support to Asian women in their start-up activities.

On the second working day, delegates will discuss in groups, focusing on issues such as women and economy, global issues for women, women empowerment and women with natural sciences.

Initiated by Japan, WAW! is one of the efforts to achieve 'a society where women shine'. The first event of its kind was also organised in Tokyo in 2014.
