4,700 killed in traffic accidents in first seven months

Traffic accidents left 4,761 people dead and 9,236 injured in the first seven months of this year.

According to the National Committee for Traffic Safety, there were 263 fewer deaths, equivalent to a 5.23% drop compared to the same period in 2016, and 1,050 fewer injuries, down 17.9%.



 Up to 2.4 traffic violations were found between January and July this year


In July alone, the country saw 1,560 traffic accidents with 627 fatalities and 1,300 injuries.

Between January and July this year, up to 2.4 million traffic violations were found with a total fine of VND1.51 trillion (USD68 million) and more than 219 driving licences were confiscated.

During the period, as many as 3,390 railway traffic violations were recorded, paying total fines of VND11.7 billion. Meanwhile there were 108,000 waterway violations.

This year, the country aims to reduce road and railway accidents by 5 to 10% compared to 2016, and serious accidents involving railways, inland waterways and coaches by at least 5%.
