Landslides on Road 12 in Dien Bien District

The rains have swept away around one thousand cubic metres of soil and stone from the nearby hill to fall into a section of Road 12 in Keo Lom Commune, isolating Dien Bien Dong District.

Do Van Trung, deputy director of the provincial Department of Transport, said that landslides have continued happening on the road, meanwhile, heavy rains have made it more difficult to deal with the problem. The department has banned people to walk through the areas affected by landslides.

Excavators and forces have been sent to landslide areas. The section of Road 12 is facing landslides but expected to open to traffic by early tomorrow, August 17.

Despite being warned of possible dangers, many people are still trying to walk through the landslide on Road 12.

The recent flash flood, the result of torrential rains, have caused dozens of deaths and left many missing in northern mountainous localities. Many houses and schools have been also damaged.

Mu Cang Chai District in Yen Bai was among the hardest-hit localities where five pupils have remained missing
