Nearly 1,500 units of blood were collected at the HCM City Labor Culture Palace today as part of a national campaign called Hành Trình Đỏ (Red Journey).

People donate blood as part of the Hành Trình Đỏ (Red Journey) campaign in HCM City on June 22

The annual campaign, which began in 26 cities and provinces on June 13 and will run until July 14, is organised by the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion and the Vietnam Red Cross Society.

It has so far been organised in Cần Thơ, Hải Phòng and HCM City and the provinces of Cà Mau, Kiên Giang, Quảng Ninh, Lâm Đồng, and Đắk Lắk, collecting more than 7,500 units of blood, according to the organisers.

Dương Thanh Đảo, marketing director of Qui Phúc Co., Ltd., said his company encouraged its nearly 100 workers to participate in the campaign.

“Blood donation is a very meaningful and humanitarian action that helps save lives,” Đảo, who has donated blood six times, said.

Trần Thị Như Tố, director of the HCM City Humanitarian Blood Donation Centre, said the voluntary blood donation movement in the city continues to grow strongly.

This year it attracted more donors than last, especially students and workers, she said.

The campaign has managed to collect more than 120,000 units in the last five years.

This year, it expects to collect at least 30,000 units.
