52 photos by 10 photographers including Thai Phien, Duong Quoc Dinh, DzungArt Nguyen, Le Quang Chau, Nguyen A, Dao Duc Hieu, Pho Ba Cuong, Tran Nhan Quyen, Ngo Xuan Phu and Do Thuy Mai, have been selected by the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Each photographer will be allowed to showcased 5-7 photos at the event.

According to head of the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition, VI Kien Thanh, Vietnamese photographers have long taken nude photography despite only recently being officially permitted to be displayed in the country.

"The photos chosen express artistic features, visual effects, space, and impressive lighting to highlight the beauty and aesthetics of female bodies," Thanh said. "We’re hosting this event aiming to help audiences understand and enjoy aesthetic and humane values.”

The move is an indicator that the door might be opening wider for similar events to be permitted in Hanoi.

Only those aged over 18 will be allowed to enter the exhibition.

In June, photographer Thai Phien had also introduced his proud collection of nude photos at an exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City, after several years of careful preparation due to regulatory hindrances.

The June 16 - 20 exhibition, Mien Co Tich, or Fairyland, received positive feedback from visitors.

Thai Phien revealed that the exhibition was the sweet result of his ten-year effort to obtain a permit for a nude photo display, highlighted by several failed attempts.

Thai Phien told Tuoi Tre Newspaper that he had wanted to give up many times.

“I thought I would never make it, even though it has been my dream for a long time to hold an exhibition for all my brainchildren,” the photographer said.

The Hanoi exhibition will be open to the public between July 20 and 27 at Exhibition House, 29 Hang Bai Street.
