A ceremony was held in Hanoi on Monday to announce the Friendship Order which was already presented to Kandel on October 9 during a UK visit by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

The event was held to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations between the United Kingdom and Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Katrin said the award showed the recognition and support of the Vietnamese government to the organisation.

Since its establishment in 2002, Facing the World has provided treatment for a large number of children with facial disfigurements in 20 countries around the world.

Throughout its ten years of operation in Vietnam, the organisation has co-ordinated with various Vietnamese hospitals to provide operations for thousands of vulnerable Vietnamese children.

Over the past two years, thanks to the organisation’s support, more than 40 Vietnamese doctors were sent to the UK to share and exchange experience with their international colleagues.

At the function on May 6, the organisation signed a co-operation agreement with the Pan Pacific Hanoi Hotel to raise funds for Vietnamese children having operations for facial deformities.
