Thousands of fishermen in the southern central province of Binh Dinh are preparing for a long fishing trip during the coming Tet holiday.

On the morning of January 24, the fishing port in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh, was busy with dozens of boats taking fuel and necessities for their offshore fishing trips during Tet.

According to fishermen, Tet is the time when tuna fish appear much so it is easier to catch them than usual. Tuna fish prices are quite stable at VND130,000/kilo.

Trawler captain Tran Men, 51, from Hoai Hai Commune, said his trip started on January 24 and would last for 20-24 days.

“It has been familiar with us to be far from home at Tet. I have welcomed Tet at sea for 20 years out of the 30 years I’ve been at sea. At the New Year’s Eve we often turn on the radio to hear the State President’s New Year messages,” Men said.

Le Van Ta, captain of a fishing boat from Hoai Nhon District, said he had celebrated Tet for 17 years on fishing boats.
