Thu and her son

Toan is now being kept in an iron cage to prevent him from attacking other people.

Despite being held in the cage, he sometimes hits her, which can even end with her bleeding.

Every day, Thu has to feed her son first through the cage. Their meals are very poor with just rice and some sesame and salt and then she usually takes the leftover food.

“My husband died 20 years ago. My son was in good health condition until he was 18 years old. Since then, he has been suffering mental problems. I feel deep grief to keep him in the cage,” Thu added.

The neighbours sometimes come to visit Thu and her son and offer small donations but this is too modest.

The poor mother hopes that she can continue taking care of her son.
