Five localities in Vietnam will start piloting the payment of fines for traffic violations via a national public services website from next month.

From March 12, people in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Haiphong and the south central Binh Thuan Province will be able to pay traffic fines at dichvucong.gov.vn, instead of having to go to treasuries for the payment.

The Traffic Police General Department under the Ministry of Public Security will log violators on its database and connect it with the portal.

People can search their names and violations and follow the steps shown on the website to make payments. People only need to check their bank accounts carefully to avoid possible errors during the money transfer.

The nationwide application is expected to be carried out from this June if the pilot scheme is successful. They can register their addresses when they want to get their driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates back by post.

From March 12, motorbike and car registration fees will be collected through the portal. The national public service website was launched last November to improve the quality of public services from state agencies. Driving licence renewals, electricity payments and the payment of taxes online by enterprises will be also provided on the platform.
