Many young people have visited the Independence Palace in HCM City to celebrate the South's Reunification Day today, April 30.

Chi Na, 20, arrived at the palace in the early morning to take some photos at the site on its important day. "The Independence Palace is an important historical site and it's meaningful to visit it today," Na said. "I've chosen one of my best traditional long dresses to visit the site today."

Thi Tien, 19, also wore a long dress when visiting the palace on the South's Reunification Day. "This is my first year in HCM City and I decided to visit the Independence Palace on this day," Tien said. "I woke up at 6 am and chose a white traditional long dress to take some photos at the site."

Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi, 23, arrived at the site in a traditional Ba Ba blouse. "I've fallen in love with this blouse since I saw the image of southern women during the American War. They are strong but still very gentle. I think it's a suitable choice to wear the blouse here today."

Huy Hoang, 26, took his girlfriend to visit the palace and pose for some photos.

The 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising, which culminated in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, gained complete victory on April 30, 1975.

The event marked the end of the American War in Vietnam, regaining independence for the southern region and reuniting the whole country.

Soldier Bui Quang Than planted the first flag on the roof of the Independence Palace, followed by the unconditional surrender of President of the Republic of Vietnam Duong Van Minh and Prime Minister Vu Van Mau at 11:30 am on April 30, 1975.
