The tunnel incident caused large amounts of freight to be stuck at railway stations. Some companies hired container trucks to transport easy to spoil goods such as farm produce. This further inflated costs.

Meanwhile, the railway sector had to use vehicles to transport 3,500 passengers between Khanh Hoa to Phu Yen stations every day.

VNR said that repairs on the North-South railway had affected the firm’s revenues. The corporation has proposed a 50 percent discount on infrastructure usage fees until repairs to the Hanoi-HCM City railway line are completed.
