Nearly 200 workers of Shin Dong Textile Ltd. Co. in HCM City were hospitalised on July 1 evening after taking their dinner at the company.

They suffered from the same symptoms of vomiting, bellyache which were similar to those of food poisoning. The workers were taken to the general hospital of District 12 at 6:30 p.m. The hospital mobilised all doctors and nurses for the emergency.

A worker named Nguyen Thi Hong Long said that at around 6:00 p.m on July 1, she and other workers took dinner before staring their working shift. The meal had rice, eggs, meat and some vegetables. During the meal, they found the cabbages sour, but still tried to eat.

Some 20 minutes after the meal, many of the workers started vomiting and then faced bellyache; even several became unconscious, including pregnant women.

Another worker said after founding the bad taste of the cabbages, they asked the kitchen staff members, but they said nothing was unusual, so they continued enjoying the meal.

According to Dr. Luong Trong Nghia, most of the patients show the sign of food poisoning. They have been given fluid transmission to ease digestion impacts.

A representative from the company said that the food was cooked by the company kitchen, adding that the company will pay all hospital fees for the patients.

The food samples will be tested to defining the causes of the case.
