Vietnam asks China to clarify incident in Guangxi

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Hai Binh had asked the Chinese side to clarify the incident on July 23, 2014 in Guangxi that caused the death of three Vietnamese women and injured two others.

He made the request on July 24 at a regular press conference where he announced a number of Vietnam’s upcoming diplomatic activities  and answered some questions raised by Vietnamese and foreign reporters.

Mr. Binh revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed Vietnamese representative agencies in China to work with Chinese functional agencies to clarify the case and provide treatment to the injured as well as services for the deceased.

On July 23, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Nanning quickly communicated with functional agencies in Guangxi on the treatment for injured people ones and investigation into the case.

On July 24, the head of the Consular Department met with the Chinese Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam in Hanoi to discuss this issue.

When asked about the information that Finland has seized a consignment of military equipment from Vietnam to Ukraine, Mr. Binh said that the  equipment were meant for mending and repairing within the framework of the national defense cooperation between Vietnam and Ukraine. This activity is taken in compliance with international law and practices.

Currently, the Vietnamese agencies are working with other related sides to deal with arising issues on customs procedures when transitting in Finland.

On  Vietnam’s reaction to China’s dredging of narrow passages on Drummond Island in Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago, FM Spokesman Binh confirmed that Vietnam has many time asserts its indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel Islands) and Truong Sa (Spratly Islands) and all activities conducted by China on the two islands are illegal and void.
