Northern region set for icy weather

Sa Pa Town in Lao Cai Province will be one of the first locations to be hit by a cold snap over coming days in the northern regions of Vietnam, with the likelihood of snow.

The National Center for Hydro‑Meteorological Forecasting forecast on January 17 that the northern region would be hit by a cold snap, the average temperature of the region will dropping to 9 Celsius on January 21-22, the coldest weather since the start of winter.

Winter this year has been so far much warmer and cold spells shorter than previous years. This cold spell, with rain, ice and snow, is predicted to be strong and cover all the northern region and part of the central region.

Authorities of Lao Cai Province warned farmers to keep livestock warm and cover crops.
