Man investigated for Danang chairman death threats
The Ministry of Public Security said on August 20 that they had moved Dao Tan Cuong, deputy director of Petrolimex Aviation Fuel JSC in Danang, to Hanoi for an investigation into the death threats he sent to the chairman of Danang People’s Committee.
Danang Chairman Huynh Duc Tho said he said he only knew about Cuong through Dao Tan Bang, Chief Office of Danang City Party Committee and Cuong's brother, and he had no personal relationship with Cuong. When being asked whether Cuong was ordered by somebody else, Tho said the police would investigate the case.
Tho had received anonymous messages, threatening him and his family. Several other officials also received the messages. Tho's personal asset declaration was published on the internet during this time. Tran Dinh Quynh, Office Chief of Danang City People's Committee, said they would investigate why the declaration was publicised.
It is speculated that the threats may be related to the changes in personnel as they were sent after Danang People's Committee issued decisions about the appointments and transfers of the city's officials.
