Hanoi started conducting Covid-19 testing for 4,500 local young men before they join the army on February 23.

On the morning of February 23, 75 young men in Ba Dinh District were provided with the Covid-19 testing. They maintained safe distancing while waiting for their turn to receive the testing. They were also given a temperature check and made their health declarations.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duy An, deputy head of Ba Dinh District’s Military Steering Board, said that local health agencies had worked with the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control when taking the test samples.

All tests will be carried out by the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control and their results will be available two days before the young men begin their army service.

Around 68.9% of people eligible for national service have met the health requirements. Those with university, college and vocation training degrees accounted for 43% of the total, while 30% voluntarily joined the army.

Hanoi will hold a ceremony on February 27 to see off 4,500 people for their army service. However, due to the on-going Covid-19, the ceremony will be shortened to around 20 minutes.
