Additional 4,423 Covid-19 patients recover

Vietnam confirmed 9,340 more Covid-19 infections on Monday while an additional 4,423 patients were discharged from hospital following their full recovery, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 9,323 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 3,991 in Ho Chi Minh City, 2,887 in Binh Duong, 538 in Dong Nai, 290 in Tay Ninh, 287 in Long An, 251 in Tien Giang, 242 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 98 in Can Tho, 84 in Phu Yen, 78 in Hanoi, 77 in Dong Thap, 60 in Danang, 57 in Vinh Long, 45 in Binh Dinh, 37 in An Giang, 34 in Binh Thuan, 33 in Khanh Hoa, 30 in Lam Dong, 27 in Thua Thien-Hue, 20 in Kien Giang, 18 in Quang Ngai, 18 in Hau Giang, 15 in Tra Vinh, 15 in Ha Tinh, 14 in Gia Lai, 14 in Dak Nong, 12 in Nghe An, 12 in Hai Duong, 11 in Quang Nam, 10 in Ninh Binh, five in Binh Phuoc, three in Quang Binh, three in Dak Lak, two in Thai Binh, and one each in Son La, Lao Cai, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, and Bac Giang. Among these new infections, 1,556 cases were found in the communities. There were 17 imported patients recorded.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Sunday, the city also recorded 3,898 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. Social distancing rules are being further tightened in the city to contain the virus spread.

As of Monday evening, 215,813 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 125,795 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 62 cities and provinces nationwide.

According to the Ministry of Health, around 10,000 vials of Remdesivir have been distributed to 10 hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City to treat Covid-19 patients starting from Sunday.The ministry has also allowed localities with high number of infection cases to quarantine and treat patients at home, using Tele-health.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 219,745 including 217,383 locally-transmitted cases.

On August 9, a total of 4,423 more patients were released from hospital following their full recovery, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 75,920.

On Monday evening, a further 360 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 3,757.

The country has conducted over 9.40 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 945,806 people having received two doses.
