A fourth worker has died due to anaphylaxis after a Covid-19 inoculation in the northern province of Thanh Hoa.

The workers are treated at the Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital

Authorities in Thanh Hoa Province reported on Friday that a 36-year-old woman in the group of workers who had serious reactions after receiving Covid-19 vaccine at Nong Cong District Healthcare Centre on November 23 had died after two days.

Earlier three others died on November 24 after showing the same symptoms.

According to a report from Thanh Hoa Provincial Health Department, the incident occurred at Nong Cong District Healthcare Centre on November 23 when 400 workers from the Vietnam Kim Viet Footwear Company were given their second dose of Sinopharm's Vero Cell Covid-19 Vaccine.

"Over 60 workers showed side effects after receiving the vaccine and had to be sent to Nong Cong District General Hospital for first aid treatment," the report said. "Some of them had strong reactions and were then transferred to Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital where they received intensive care and treatment but three women aged 29 and 30 died on November 24."

A doctor from Nong Cong District General Hospital said that most of the workers who showed side effects were women aged between 25-30. Eight of them are still being treated at Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital but they are recovering. All the other workers who stayed at Nong Cong District General Hospital have also recovered and some have been discharged.

At a meeting held on November 25 on the incident, experts from the Ministry of Health concluded that the workers suffered severe anaphylaxis after vaccination. Investigations showed that there were no problems with the vaccine storage and inoculation process.

Thanh Hoa authorities have stopped the distribution of the 43,000 doses of the Vero Cell Vaccine that belong to the same batch given to the local workers.

Vietnam has received and allocated a total of 135 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine, including 48.50 million doses of Sinopharm's Vero Cell, 46.70 million doses of AstraZeneca, 33.30 million doses of Pfizer and Moderna and the remainder being Abdala and Sputnik V.

As of November 25, the country had successfully administered over 114.59 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine with over 46.10 million people fully vaccinated.
