Hospitals in Hanoi have received more patients over the recent days amid a strong cold front.

Huu Nghi Hospital has seen a surge in elderly patients over the past two days. An 86-year-old man from Co Nhue Ward in Bac Tu Liem District, Hanoi, has suffered from a severe cough. He was asked to take an X-ray and ultrasound for the diagnosis.

The hospital’s outpatient department is often crowded as Hanoi’s temperature has sharply fallen since the evening of November 30. The sudden weather change affected many people, particularly the elderly.

Doctor Dao Trong Thanh from the hospital's outpatient department said that “These days, we receive 50 - 60 hospitals per day. Most of them are struggling with respiratory and cardiovascular problems.”

According to Doctor Dao Trong Thanh, whenever the weather changes suddenly, the hospital sees a 20 percent rise in patients.

On Friday, he provided medical checks-up for people with high blood pressure, fever and cough.

Thanh also warned of the higher risk of strokes during the cold weather. So people should go to medical facilities urgently if they experience symptoms such as dizziness, headaches and irregular heartbeat.
