At least two tourists and a crew member were injured after their boat collided with a ferry on the Tien River in the southern province of An Giang on April 19.

According to a report by police in Vinh Xuong Commune, the accident occurred at 6pm on April 19 when the Hang Chau Tourist Express Boat carrying 42 foreign tourists from Phnom Penh to An Giang suddenly collided with a passenger ferry.

The strong collision broke a large part of the boat and caused injuries to some people standing nearby. A 36-year-old Vietnamese crewman had two legs broken and right arm cut off by a metal sheet. Two male tourists, a 57-year-old German and a 67-year-old French also had their left legs broken in the accident.

A passenger on the ferry, Pham Duy Ha, said that the tourist boat was running at a very high speed before the collision occurred.

"The ferry driver, Vo Van Nhan, had tried to slow down but still hit the boat," Ha said. "Many tourists cried for help. After the crash, the boat was heavily damaged and all tourists were evacuated. The injured people were rushed to Tan Chau Hospital."

According to local authorities, the tourist boat operates daily on the An Giang- Phnom Penh route. Each trip lasts five hours. Most of the passengers are foreign tourists.
