The southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau is facing a high risk of more forest fires amid hot weather.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau is home to 28,000 hectares of forest. Since this year’s dry season, the province has seen 11 forest fires in Xuyen Moc District, Vung Tau City and Phu My Town. The fire has affected 16 hectares of forest.

The province recorded two consecutive forest fires, ruining four hectares of forest between April 10-12 alone.

The southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau is facing a high risk of more forest fires amid hot weather.

Forests in Ba Ria-Vung Tau are in rugged terrain with over three-quarters of their area consisting of steep hills and mountains making firefighting difficult.

Water has reached dead level in many local streams, adding more challenges for forest fire fighting.

Forested areas are interspersed with agricultural land, residential areas and a dense network of roads and pathways, making it difficult to keep people away from forested areas.

Local authorities are closely co-operating with forest owners to intensify patrol to prevent and detect forest fires.
