Traffic accidents kill 138 people during five-day holiday

Vietnam reported 347 traffic accidents that left 138 people dead and 285 others injured during the five-day holiday to mark Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day.

According to the National Committee for Traffic Safety, the traffic police nationwide reported 77,431 traffic violations. During the five-day holiday starting from April 27, they issued fines of VND170.12 billion (USD6.96 million).

 

A traffic accident occurs between two coaches in Gia Lai on April 30, killing one passenger and injuring 17 others.


The traffic police also impounded 1,163 cars and 28,015 motorbikes and revoked the driving licenses of more than 14,987 people.

Drunk driving accounted for 21,369 cases, including 87 involving drug use.

Hanoi and HCM City faced severe traffic jams on April 27-28.
