Puppet troupes from 20 foreign countries are set to perform alongside Vietnamese artists at the international puppetry festival 2024, due to take place in Hanoi in October.

A total of 20 art troupes from across the world will be selected to participate in the festival, including those from China, Japan, the UK, Germany, France, the United States, Cuba, and Vietnam.

Local artists from the Vietnam Puppet Theater, Thang Long Water Puppet Theater, Hai Phong Puppet Art Troupe, Phuong Nam Art Theater in Ho Chi Minh City, and Dong Nai Art Theater will all represent the host country by participating in the event.

The festival is expected to serve as a platform to showcase the creativity, skill, and cultural features of each participating nation.

Most notably, their performances have never previously won prizes in international festivals held in Vietnam.

The performances will be judged by five Vietnamese and foreign experts.

The organising board will award gold, silver, and bronze medals to outstanding performances at the event, as well as certificates of merit to each participating troupe.

The festival will see both local and foreign troupes put on performances through different types of shows, including water puppets, shadow puppets, and stick puppets in order to entertain spectators.

It aims to foster greater cooperation and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and other countries, according to details provided by the organisers at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
