Tran Thi Hoai, 34, from Cam Xuyen District is caring for her husband Nguyen Cong Thinh, 37, at the National Institute of Burns in Hanoi.
According to Hoai, on April 14, while Thinh was installing roof sheeting for a local household, he lifted a long metal rod onto the roof, which touched high-voltage power lines, causing him an electric shock.
As a result, around 27 percent of his body was burned, with some injuries suffering from necrosis with fluids seeping out. He has also sustained severe multiple traumas because of falling off the roof.
Doctors said that Thinh’s condition was critical and he is at risk of death. He is struggling with chest and rib injuries and pleural effusion. Thinh has had one operation, but his condition has only modestly improved.
The couple have five children, but two of them died due to illness. Their youngest child is eight months old.
The family lives on farming, and Thinh’s modest monthly income.
Hoai has borrowed VND200 million (USD7,858) to cover her husband’s treatment.
