Brangelina drops into wartime prison cells

Hollywood supercouple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie visited the so-called \'tiger cages\' on Con Dao Island which were once notorious wartime prison cells on Sunday at 3:30 pm local time.

Angelina Jolie is taken to a cell inside the \'tiger cages,\' a notorious wartime prison cluster on Con Dao Island, southeast of Vietnam.

The \'tiger cages\' were built by the French colonialists to imprison, torture, and execute Vietnamese revolutionaries during Vietnam’s Anti-French Resistance War which began in 1858 and ended in 1954.

As usual, their visit was staged in secret and they were well protected by an entourage of bodyguards and security staff.

Brangelina, as the two are often dubbed, was carried in a black seven-seater while the entourage used a silver 16-seat car.

The two movie superstars put on casual wear with Pitt in white T-shirt and light blue jeans, and Jolie in complete black.

Pitt brought a camera along with him whereas his partner shouldered a conical hat (or nón lá in Vietnamese).

The six adoptees they bring to Vietnam were left at Six Senses Resort where the couple stay during their visit to the island.

Pitt and Jolie looked pretty relaxed and cool when getting past the gate of the historical site.

A Six Senses Resort employee, who is in charge of taking its roomers to places of interest on the island, took Brangelina to the prison cells, \'sunbathing\' rooms, and common yards inside.

“Mr and Mrs Smith” exuded an air of surprise on staring at the sculpture on the walls that depicts torture scenes in the past. “Oh, my God!” they both whispered.

They got back to the resort right after the visit.

The pair are staying in the Southeast Asian nation to fulfill their promise of bringing home Vietnamese orphan Pax Thien, whom they adopted in 2006.

Con Dao is a district of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province in southeastern Vietnam, and lies offshore this province.

A guide from Six Senses Resort raises her conical hat to hinder Tuoi Tre reporter from taking a photograph of the famous couple.

She maintains the hindrance until the two have been inside the \'tiger cages\'.
