Work begins on Mong Duong 2 thermal power plant

Work began on the 1,120-MV Mong Duong 2 thermal power plant in Cam Pha town in the northern province of Quang Ninh on September 16.

The coal-fired plant will be built following the BOT (build – operate - transfer) model with a total investment of US$2 billion sourced from the Mong Duong AES-VCM Electricity Company, Ltd, a joint venture of American Electric Supply, Inc. (AES), Posco Power Corporation of the Republic of Korea and the China Investment Corporation.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2015 and the plant will be transferred to the Vietnamese government after 25 years of operation.
