Chicken meat sellers dip the meat in a banned chemical to make it more attractive to customers

The National Agro Forestry Fisheries Quality Assurance Department in Vietnam has ordered all shops in the market to sell chicken meat only as per regulations and sans chemical substances.

After media reports that retail shops in markets in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and some other provinces in the country sold chicken meat dipped in a banned yellow chemical substance, to make the meat look more attractive, the National Agro Forestry Fisheries Quality Assurance Department placed a ban on businesses from using fake chemical substances in edible items.

According to the Institute of Biotechnology and the Food Technology University, the chemical that chicken meat sellers were using to lace the meat is an industrial substance containing 2.4 diaminoazobene-hydrochloride.

The substance is basically used in the production of polymer, hair dyes, rubber manufacturing and printing ink. It is very harmful for human health and hence the ban on using it on edible food items.
