VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company has just made its official entry into the Vietnam aviation market as a low-cost carrier.

The budget carrier was licensed to fly both domestic and international routes. It will be using the new Airbus A320.

“As a low-cost carrier, VietJetAir will operate the Airbus A320 aircraft to optimise efficiency and reduce maintenance costs,” said the company’s Deputy General Director, Nguyen Duc Tam, adding “We will also maximize the aircraft’s passenger capacity by having 180 on board each plane.”

Initially, VietJetAir will operate 4 flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi each day. The company hopes to increase this to 14 early next year.

The Ho Chi Minh City-Danang route will be started in early 2012, with flights to other destinations in Vietnam and Southeast Asia to be launched mid-year.

To mark their opening, VietJetAir is launching a special promotion for the Hanoi-HCM City route, priced at just VND 100,000 (USD5) for flights between December 25, 2011 and April 30, 2012.
