A 18-year-old man in the southern province of Hau Giang died of type A/H5N1 flu according to a doctor at Pasteur Institute Ho Chi Minh City.

The man who died of type A/H5N1 flu worked in a duck farm in Hau Giang

“Type A/H5N1 has reappeared in the southern region. The man who died of the disease worked in a duck farm in Hau Giang Province,” Dr. Le Hoan San, Deputy Director of the institute said at a meeting on January 18.

The man had displayed symptoms including a high temperature, coughing and tiredness. He was sent to Kien Giang Hospital for further treatment after medicine failed to improve his condition, San shared.

He noted that the patient died on January 10, which coincided with the hospital sending his blood sample to the institute for testing for suspicion of bird flu virus infection.

On January 17, the institute announced the test proved positive, revealing the patient had died of A/H5N1 flu.

“Bird flu germs embrace the dangers inherent in cold weather, and it often fosters the disease’s development. Localities nationwide should be on their guard about the disease and take preventive methods,” he emphasised.
