At a meeting held yesterday afternoon in Hanoi regarding the land scam in Hai Phong City, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung confirmed local authorities were wrong in imposing a forced removal on a farmer to withdraw 40 hectares of land allocated to him in 1993.

The PM also demanded police to make thorough investigation into the case that started in January this year in Vinh Quang Commune of Tien Lang District.

“It’s regretful to hear of the wrongdoing, which is originated from poor management skill of the district’s and commune’s authorities,” the PM told the meeting.

Local authorities had gone against the law in allocating 19.3 hectares of land to farmer Doan Van Vuon, added the PM. And two decisions to withdraw the 40 hectares, including another land plot of 21 hectares, by Tien Lang failed to comply with the current law.

The meeting to announce the PM's point of view was chaired by Government's office chief Vu Duc Dam.

On January 7, the Hai Phong City Party Committee suspended the chairman of Tien Lang District People’s Committee, Le Van Hien, and his deputy Nguyen Van Khanh for their wrongdoings in withdrawing the land that was allocated to Vuon.
