Hanoi’s Department of Transportation is set to pedestrianise several streets around the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum on the occasion of the late President HCM's birthday on May 19.

Hoan Kiem’s authorities pioneer pedestrianising some streets in the district

A project will facilitate some pedestrian walkways extending from the intersection of Le Hong Phong and Ong Ich Khiem Street to the junction of Chua Mot Cot, Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, and a stretch of Hung Vuong Street (from Le Hong Phong to Chua Mot Cot Street).

Hanoi’s Department of Transportation has assigned this project to the Urban Traffic Maintenance Project Management, the Transport Development and Strategy Institute, the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and some other relevant agencies.

The Ministry of Transportation has planned to submit their project to the municipal authorities before April 29. These pedestrian streets will be put into operation before May 19.

Before that, Deputy Prime Minister has directed Hanoi People’s Committee to pilot some pedestrian walkways around HCM Mausoleum and Ba Dinh Square.

The municipal Department of Transportation piloted 10 pedestrian streets in Hoan Kiem District in 2011, including Hang Dao, Hang Ngang, Hang Duong, Dong Xuan, Le Lai, Le Thach, Le Thai To, Dinh Tien Hoang, Hang Khay, a stretch of Trang Tien Street (from the beginning of Hang Khay Street to Ngo Quyen Street). These pedestrian streets operate from 6 AM on Saturdays to 10 PM on Sundays and on national holidays.
