PM affirms close ties with Japan
Vietnam has always attached importance to strengthening cooperative relations with Japan in all fields and has worked with Japan to develop their sustainable and long-term strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement at a reception in Hanoi on April 16 for the governor of Aichi prefecture in Japan, Hideaki Uhmura .
He said Japan is now one of Vietnam’s main investors and trade partners, and has been its biggest provider of ODA for many years.
Almost all Japanese businesses in the country are operating well and their managers have established good working relationships with Vietnamese employees, said Mr Dung.
The PM noted with satisfaction the encouraging results in economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Japan and said there is still great potential for further cooperation in the future.
He said he hopes that Aichi prefecture will co-ordinate closely with relevant Vietnamese localities to implement projects so as to boost comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
PM Dung proposed that Aichi prefecture strengthen cooperative relations with Vietnam in health care, education, tourism, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
The Government of Vietnam always creates favourable conditions for stronger economic, trade, investment and tourism cooperation between Aichi and Vietnamese localities, Mr Dung assured his guest.
Governor Uhmura confirmed that Aichi businesses show their interest in investment in Vietnam. More than 100 businesses from Aichi are currently cooperating with Vietnam and many others are also seeking opportunities in the country.
He asked the Vietnamese Government to facilitate the operation of businesses from Japan and Aichi in particular in Vietnam. He vowed to boost future cooperation in education, health and tourism between Aichi prefecture and Vietnam and support Vietnamese students in studying in the prefecture.
At an another reception for Governor Uhmura and his entourage on the same day, State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan also said she hopes Aichi prefecture will boost cooperation with localities in Vietnam in accordance with the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The State Vice President emphasized that Japan has supported Vietnam in many fields, especially health and social affairs, noting that the Japanese Cleft Palate Association, a non-profit organization, has performed free surgeries for more than 2,000 children in Vietnam.
Governor Uhmura said his locality wants to increase the number of flights to Vietnam and will continue supporting cleft palate and cancer surgeries for patients in Vietnam.
Aichi prefecture is one of the largest economic and industrial hubs in central Japan with its GDP accounting for nearly 10 percent of the national GDP.
Aichi has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on economic cooperation with relevant Vietnamese ministries and agencies.
Direct flights now operate between Aichi’s international airport and Hanoi and HCM City.
