Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung requested agencies to conduct inspections to find out who was complicit in the escape of Former Chairman of Vinalines, Duong Chi Dung.

Duong Chi Duong fled after prosecution for alleged financial misconduct while he was the Chairman of the State-owned Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) and subsequently, on May 19, there was an international warrant for his arrest placed on him by International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).

After efforts from the Ministry of Public Security and many other agencies, Duong Chi Dung, 55, was captured, reportedly in a Southeast Asian nation, and then extradited to Vietnam by Interpol.

At the Government’s regular meeting on September 5, Vu Duc Dam, Minister-Chairman of the Government Office, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had been monitoring the situation very closely.

The Prime Minister, who is also the Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, had at an earlier date roundly criticised the Ministry of Public Security for the escape, and ordered them to do its utmost to arrest the former official.

"The Prime Minister also directed to clarify whether or not there were acts of covering up and abetting Duong Chi Dung escape," Dam said.
