Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc instructed an inspection prompted by information that Dong Nai Province’s Department of Transport bought racing motorbikes for their patrol activities.

The mortobikes draw public concern

The provincial People’s Committee has been assigned to conduct the inspection after the public raised concerns about a purchase by Dong Nai Province’s Department of Transport of eight Kawasaki Ninja 250R motorcycles worth USD12,500 each for police patrol.

Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked the committee to report on the inspection before December 12.

Earlier, speaking with DTiNews, Chief Inspector of the Dong Nai Province’s Department of Transport said this kind of motorbike has been widely used by police in many foreign countries.

He added that these new vehicles were bought to replace 11 old ones and the purchases were approved by the local People’s Committee and the Department of Finance.

He added that the purchases were made by a bidding process and that Phuong Mai Joint Stock Company won the contract. However the contract has not been fully carried out, as the company has yet to provide spare parts and some documents, which could leave a bad impression in the public eye.

However, according to many people, traffic police have no need for such high speed vehicles, and view it as wasteful.
