On January 7, the District 1 People’s Court in HCM City, announced the result of the trial. Dai Duong Company, which owns the Palazzo Club at the five-star Sheraton Saigon Hotel, must pay Sam, a 61-year old, the sum of VND1.15 trillion (USD55.5 million).

The issue of compiled interest for the delayed payment has not yet been solved, and was not included in the suit.

The court denied plaintiff’s request that Dai Duong Joint Venture Company suspend operation of the casino, as such an action is not within the jurisdiction of the court.

On October 25, 2009, Ly Sam came to Palazzo Club located at Sheraton Saigon Hotel to join “The Landlord” game. He won USD5.5 million.

He took an image of the screen and himself and reported his winnings to the managers, asking them to for written proof with signatures. But, the club manager did not sign, instead giving a verbal promise to pay within three days.

When he failed to receive his reward, he sent a letter to general director of Dai Duong Joint Venture Company to request payment. Finally, Sam was shocked to be informed that the prize was a result of the machine's malfunction.
