The dam of a hydro electric power plant in Gia Lai province burst on June 12, washing away 10 local people of a rice field downstream.
Vo Thanh Hung, Chairman of the Duc Co district People’s Committee, confirmed that the incident occurred at 03.00am in Ia Dom commune, where the Ia Krel 2 plant is located.

The raging torrent submerged a large acreage of a rubber farm and subsidiary crops, causing great damage to businesses and farmers.

It also washed away 10 people working in a farm nearby. Luckily, local border guards rescued and took them to safe grounds.

Siu Sum, head of the Ia Dom commune administration, initially blamed the incident on project design failure.

The 5.5MW power plant was built in 2010 at a total cost of VND120 billion.
