Saigonese people plagued by landslide

Seven houses by the Nha Be River in HCM City fell into the river during the night of June 23 as a result of landslide, threatening lives of dozens of people.

Huynh Van Mach, from Binh My Hamlet in Can Gio District, said, “At around 10pm I awoke to screams from my neighbour; our house fell into the river together with the houses of six neighbours. Almost our belongings were swept away.”

Nguyen Thi Nho, a local woman said she urged her seven family members to move out of their house after feeling the ground shake.

“At the time, around 40 residents in neighbourhood were trying to run away from their houses. It was chaos and we couldn’t do anything to save our possessions,” Nho recalled.

Local resident in Binh My Hamlet were still trying to collect things from the site until the afternoon of June 24.

Local authorities have provided affected families with one box of instant noodles and two water bottles as urgent support.


A house fallen into the river

Huynh Cach Mang, Chairman of Can Gio District People’s Committee said they have assigned staff to conduct a survey to estimate property losses. They would issue policies to support affected families and help them stabilise their lives soon.
