Tropical storm Mangkhut, or Storm No. 6, hit Vietnam on August 7, bringing with it wind speeds of 62-74km per hour and 70-148 mm of rainfall in northern regions.

Dinh Lap District in Lang Son Province received 148 mm of rain while many localities in Hanoi, such as Hoai Duc and Ha Dong districts received  up to 102 mm of rain.

Employees of sewerage and drainage companies immediately began efforts to diminish the impact of the storm, but many streets were inundated.

According to predictions from weather services there should be relief from the heavy rains on the evening of August 9. The mountainous localities in and around the provinces of Bac kan, Lang Son and Yen Bai have been alerted to possible landslides and flash floods.

The National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control instructed localities to inspect and ensure the quality of dykes and evacuate the most vulnerable areas.
