The central region has again provided evidence that it was once a major trading hub since another ancient ship was found on August 16 in Binh Chau Commune, Quang Ngai Province.

Head of local Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism
arrived on the scene with police and border guards

The ship  found this time is located roughly 100 meters away from the previous ship, which was discovered last year close to Chau Thuan Village. After the news got out, provincial authorities quickly directed police and border guards to protect the sites from individual treasure hunters.

However, many people still tried to find access to the site despite the ban. The authorities are protecting the wreck and finding ways to prepare it for proper excavation procedures.

The ship is protected from opportunistic hunters

On the morning of September 8, 2012, after a sunken ship was discovered 30 meters from the shore and at a depth of three meters, locals quickly dived down to search for treasures. People in other provinces and cities were also drawn into the treasure hunt, damaging many items in the rush.

Previously, nearly 14,000 artefacts from a sunken ship off the coast of Quang Nam Province were retrieved and shared between the authorities and the excavating company.
