A Vietjet Air flight from Hanoi to Nha Trang was delayed for three hours on June 12 after a passenger commented that he brought a bomb along.

The incident happened at Noi Bai Airport, when a flight attendant was checking boarding passengers' tickets. A 31-year-old passenger, Le Nguyen Tuan Tung from Hanoi, said to the attendant, "Just check the pass then check the bomb."

The flight crew immediately reported the man to airport security, who postponed the flight to thoroughly check all passengers and their luggage. Le Nguyen Tuan Tung was not allowed to board and was taken into custody by the Northern Airports Authority. Three hours later, the plane took off to Nha Trang.

A similar incident occurred in March at Buon Me Thuot Airport. Passenger Nghiem Tho Hoan joked that he was carrying a bomb as a Vietjet Air plane was about to take off, headed for Hanoi. This passenger was banned from flying for six months.

Resolution 91, concerning administrative sanctions for violations in civil aviation, states that if passengers give false information that could cause harm to aviation safety they could receive a fine as high as VND50 million (USD2,400). In addition, they would be responsible for compensation to the airlines and may be suspended from flying.

Despite several such incidents, no Vietnamese airline has suffered a bombing attempt.
