The first body has been recovered after Dong Giac stone mine in Phu Tho Province collapsed two days ago.

Scene of the collapse

The Dong Giac mine is under management of Tran Phu Company. The residents of Giac 1 Village, in Thu Cuc Commune, said they heard a loud noise at around 10:30am on June 25. "It looked like half of the mountain had just fallen on the site," said one villager.

Many people were fled the scene, however two workers were unaccounted for. Colonel Ha Minh Tan, head of police force in Phu Tho Province confirmed that there are two workers, Ha Van Dien and Vi Tien Luan were presumed to be buried under the collapse.

Recently, Thu Cuc Commune has suffered frequent and heavy rains, some of which lasted for several days. Many presume that these conditions, mixed with the mining activities, including explosives and drilling, caused the collapse.

Dogs are used to help find buried worker

The chairman of Tan Son District People's Committee, Nguyen Trung Kien said they immediately set up a rescue team, while the military in the area also sent an infantry brigade to help. "We asked permission to use dogs to help find the buried workers. In total, the rescue force consisted of 200 people." he said.

As of June 26, the body of Ha Van Dien was found. The other worker remains missing.
